Belle Mare came to fruition a year and a half ago, when 21-year-old London native Amelia Bushell met Thomas Servidone at an open mic night in New York. It took two meetings for the duo to write their first two songs, and after a couple of months, the band, a current five-person lineup, came out with their first full-length record, The Boat of the Fragile Mind, created within the confines of Servidone’s quaint Park Slope apartment.

I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon writing haikus, while drinking dark 'n' stormy concoctions with Bushell, the voice behind the Brooklyn-based dream pop group. This is what ensued.

Do you ever wish you could sing with a man's voice?

I've never thought about that in my life (laughs). I've always embraced my – my voice is kind of deep…ish. I don't know. I can't really answer that question.

But if you could sing with man's voice, who would it be?
James Blake, definitely James Blake.

Would you ever dress as a man on stage?
Yes I would. Half of the time I dress as a boy anyways.

What's the last book you read?
Journeys of a Sufi Musician?

How was it?
I don't want to offend anybody. It was aight. I'm enjoying getting to know the concept of Sufism.

Cool. Okay let's talk about something more exciting. Are you dating anyone?
Hell no. I have a million people I really want to date, but I'm shy. I'm a shy girl.

Describe your ideal man-boy.
He's got some tattoos, black, long hair. Wait, it doesn't even have to be black, just long…hot, but not serious. I like goofy.

What would you want him to know about you?
Sincerity – that I'm generally a nice person and that my favorite food is chocolate. Oh, and if he really wants to take me on a date he should take me to The Meatball Shop, and if he wants to cure my hangover he should bring me Indian food.

I read in a recent Teen Vogue interview you did that Spice Girls is your favorite band?

Hell yes. Spice Girls will always be my favorite band – or rather, my most influential band.

Does anyone ever call you Meals for short?
Yes... I wish they could come up with a more attractive name.

Like what?
You tell me.
